What is the importance of fungi on the dregation of the hydrocarbons of petroleum?

Fungi are decomposers. They decompose organic material into more basic forms of hydrogen and carbon that can be preserved as petroleum.What is the importance of fungi on the dregation of the hydrocarbons of petroleum?
Could it possibly be as important as crystallized carbon having the form of octahedron?


I have my doubts.
